Noisy Spring
House Finch Bullocks Oriole Red Tail Hawk A walk through our vineyards and under the oak trees at this time of year is a delight to the ears. Recently a birder equiped with a scope the size of a Jeroboam spent an hour or so here and identified numerous native songbirds. Among the birds were these pictured above as well as: Western Kingbird, American Goldfinch, Lesser Goldfinch, Brewers Blackbird, Dark-Eyed Junco and Acorn Woodpecker. He concluded that the excellent mix of birds is an indication that our organic farming practices provide the birds with a friendly habitat in which to thrive. We now have a telescope in the tasting room so our visitors can enjoy some bird watching from the porch. Introducing our new Semillon With limited plantings in California, it is becoming difficult to find Semillon bottled on its own. But for 11 years we have bottled this noble grape as a varietal. We thought 2003 might be an exception as a few weeks before harvest wild pigs burrowed under the fence night after night and gorged themselves on our Semillon grapes. They moved on just in time to leave us a little to bottle. 2003 -"The Wild Boar Vintage." Bottle Price $16.00.
