2005 Carmenere

See our complete wine selection

A brand new wine for us at Yorkville Cellars. The "lost" red grape of the Bordeaux region and nearly extinct there, but then rediscovered in Chile, where there are over 16,000 acres growing. We're very excited about our first vintage. Particularly because in California it is an extremely rare grape with only 59 bearing acres. Similar to a darker, brooding Merlot, this wine has blueberry fruit, roses, anise, and smokey-leafy aromas. Bright and refreshing, with boysenberry fruit and light tannins to finish.

Due to individual state regulations we can only ship to the following 29 states: Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Iowa, Louisiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oregon, South Carolina, Texas, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, Wisconsin and Wyoming. We can also ship internationally, however it's pretty expensive.

Winemaker's notes

Harvested on Nov 1st, grapes were gently crushed, and cold soaked for three days before innoculation. Fermentation was held at a constant 80°, and then the wine was gently pressed and racked to French oak barrels for ageing. After 18 months the wines were settled, fined, and gently filtered before bottling. Delicious now, or hold 2-3 years.
